Rick Klauber working on stones

Rick Klauber (Artist)

"A viewing stone is a natural stone that suggests some aspect of the natural world. These stones are shaped by water, wind, ice, and heat to create scenic vistas, objects, and embedded images that are found in nature; real or imagined The art dates back over 1500 years in Asia and now is developing a following in the West. Nature is remarkable at imitating itself in uncut stone found in waterways, deserts, and beaches of the Western United States. It is my goal as an artist to bring these natural wonders into the home or office by providing a carved wooden base to enhance the presentation for optimal viewing. My intent is to elicit a response from the viewer by naming each stone, but alternative interpretations are encouraged and stones may have many images seen by the viewer. Looking for natural stones and interpreting them in the context of the natural and spiritual world is fulfilling and goes beyond the initial reaction of what the stone represents. In a frantic paced world, I have found peace in pursuing this art form and encourage anyone who is interested to see stones as much more than rocks!" - Rick Klauber

Rick Klauber died in tragically in a boating accident in 2018. While Rick is no longer with us, Klauber Viewing Stone Art continues to educate, show, and making Rick's pieces available. The goal is that the stones that he found so much inspiration in can find homes with those that will also enjoy the art that brought him so much delight.

My connection to Rick’s art began with chasing an understanding of what he was seeing. After his death it became important to me to continue to make his art available to those that would be inspired by it. So, I have worked in his studio cataloging, continued to submit his art to galleries and shows, and have worked to update this site to make his writings about his work and his artwork itself available for purchase and inspiration.
